The majority opinion condemned Gary_s behavior but said it wasn_t technically illegal. Lawmakers are already working on legislation to fix the legal loophole so enjoy it while you can pervs The toxic blue-green algae that has caused many problems in Florida has now hit the state of Utah and one of the largest fresh water lakes in the US. The 150-square-mile Utah Lake is now covered with the toxic gunk. Besides the foul smell the toxic algae causes a literal and figurative rash of health problems. Utah Poison Control reports receiving hundreds of calls with symptoms including vomiting diarrhea and headaches. While the lake itself isn_t used for drinking water the bloom has spread to the north-flowing Jordan River an irrigation source for dozens of farmers. A small silver lining for people needing to flee toxic algae: summer gas prices are lower than they_ve been in a decade Average gas prices in the US stood at 2 dollars and 18 cents a gallon on Friday with some predicting they could soon drop below the 2 dollar mark The low prices are due not just to the drop in the cost of oil but a MAJOR oversupply of gas. Drinking milk the day after it_s expired-THAT_S a risk. Choosing to not use sunscreen on a scorching hot day-not particularly smart either. But diving into shark-infested waters to sit on top of a dead whale-THAT_S just plain DUMBWilliams claimed he thought the whale was in distress and was trying to help it. Yeah right. According to several sources the nearly 40-foot carcass had been floating in the ocean for WEEKS. Clearly Williams was after a little thrill-seeking adventure-and it very nearly backfired The Aussie is reportedly an extreme-sports enthusiast. Well he was playing the most DANGEROUS game of all this time around. Hope that adrenaline rush was worth it Given the WORLDWIDE negative attention Williams has received I_m going to go out on a limb and say it wasn_t.A spokesperson for Australia_s Department of Fisheries summed it up like this: 99 percent of the population would see that behavior as irresponsible. I guess Williams can count himself among that ONE per cent who thought this was a completely reasonable and logical thing to do. Williams very nearly earned himself a DARWIN Award with his inexplicably stupid decision. A major undercover operation has resulted in the arrests of more than a THOUSAND suspected gang members across the US As part of Project Shadowfire Immigration officials spent the past 5 weeks carrying out a series of busts across the country. Charges filed so far include allegations of drug and sex trafficking human smuggling and murder. And Fidel Castro has a message for President Obama after his recent historic visit he said and I quote we don_t need your help end quote. The former Cuban leader spoke out in an editorial published across state-run media on Monday. He accused the US president of using honey-coated words to fool Cubans and reminded readers of the many US attempts to overthrow the country_s communist government. Here_s the latest.1. VS) Senior officials from the International Atomic Energy Agency have descended on Iran amid ongoing concerns about their nuclear program. The six-member delegation is in the country to start a dialogue that is long overdue. Among the delegates are the IAEA_s chief inspector as well as its second in command.PP) This comes after the US EU and Australia imposed tough new sanctions over Iran_s nuclear program. While the allies accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons Iran vigorously denies it insisting they_re enriching uranium for use in energy only. An Iranian official says this trip should resolve any ambiguity and show their transparency regarding their nuclear aims. 2. VS) Although it may be hard to believe the US is in peace talks with the Taliban Several negotiators have been meeting with American officials in Qatar (kah-TAR) where they_re engaging in so-called trust-building measures. That includes discussions of a possible prisoner transfer.PP) However the Taliban have not publicly acknowledged that they_re engaging in any talks with the US. America on the other hand isn_t denying that negotiations are underway. Meanwhile the Afghan government was initially angry about not being involved but have since accepted that the talks would take place without their involvement.3. VS) Elsewhere in the Middle East the Syrian capital of Damascus saw some of its fiercest fighting to date over the weekend. At least 26 casualties were reported in the exchange between Syrian troops and opposition forces. The Syrian army regained control of much of the suburban region of Saqba (SAK-buh). PP) While the rebel Free Syrian Army seems to have been largely defeated it appears that they still have a small presence in the suburbs. Overall at least 60 people lost their lives nationwide just one day after the Arab League suspended its monitoring mission in Syria. And a Royal Caribbean cruise ship was forced to cut its journey short after getting caught up in a violent winter storm The Anthem of the Seas was on a 7-day voyage between New York and Florida when the weather turned just off the coast of North Carolina on Sunday. It_s the most the government has ever offered in a cybercrime case. The hacker allegedly stole more than one hundred million dollars from online accounts. He was also behind the notorious GameOver Zeus attack network which infected more than a million computers worldwide. Authorities believe he is currently at large in Russia. Meanwhile the US Justice Department is looking into a possible precious metals racket between major banks. Ten prominent banks in all are suspected of rigging the prices of precious metals such as gold and silver The probe includes some of the world_s biggest financial institutions including HSBC Barclays JP Morgan Chase and Deutsche Bank. Switzerland has also opened a similar investigation. And a mysterious tunnel found on the York University campus in Toronto has garnered international headlines. That_s because police have no idea who dug the passageway or WHY. One thing_s for sure: whoever_s responsible clearly knew what they were doing. The 33-foot long tunnel was supported by wooden beams and fitted with moisture-resistant lightbulbs. Police also found gas canisters food supplies a generator and a wheel-barrow inside.
