Denny Hamlin Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are among the handful of racers taking part in the new group. They met for the first time over the weekend to talk about a number of issues including safety. Hamlin says it_s the first time drivers have ever had an open line to NASCAR_s powers that be. Drivers and officials plan to meet again later this season.The Stanley Cup Final matchup is set The Tampa Bay Lightning will take on the Chicago Blackhawks. Both teams won dramatic game 7_s to advance over the weekend. The finals matchup promises plenty of firepower. Arsenal couldn_t catch Chelsea in the English Premier League standings this season finishing third but things are looking up for their chances NEXT year. And baseball fans got some disappointing news this weekend. Bryce Harper - arguably the sport_s best hitter so far this season - says he probably WON_T participate in this year_s Home Run Derby. The 22-year old is having an MVP caliber year and is tied for the league lead with 18 homers. The reason he_s sitting out? His dad Ron has a shoulder injury and is the only person Bryce wants pitching to him at the Derby. About 10 years before the terrorist attacks in New York City the Justice Department and Drug Enforcement Administration started a program that logged calls from the US to 116 countries linked to drug trafficking including Canada Mexico and most of Central and South America. Investigators say the system helped them track drug cartel distribution networks. The program provided the blueprint for the controversial National Security Agency surveillance that followed. Russian hackers managed to break into the White House A new report from CNN claims that hackers gained access to the White House_s computer system giving them confidential information that included President Obama_s day-to-day schedule. The hackers first breached the servers at the State Department and used that access to leapfrog their way into the White House system. It_s important to note that the incident is not new. It happened last year and White House officials are downplaying its significance. The US and Cuba are on the brink of taking another promising step towards improved relations The State Department is widely expected to remove Cuba from the government_s list of State Sponsors of Terrorism. The designation has been a diplomatic stumbling block between the two nations for years. President Obama has yet to confirm the development but an announcement could come as soon as this week. The king of revenge porn has finally gotten his comeuppance San Diego_s Kevin Bollaert has become the first person convicted of running a revenge porn site in the US. He now faces up to twenty years behind bars. The 28-year old was the sleaze bag behind a number of sites where people posted naked photos of their exes - mostly of women. Bollaert charged a 350 dollar fee to have the photos taken down. LA Attorney General Kamala Harris says the verdict is a stern warning to criminals looking to exploit victims online: they will no longer be shielded from the law or jail. And in business news Staples has announced its intention to buy it_s biggest rival Office Depot The 6.3 billion dollar deal is an unquestionably bold move. With increasing competition from online retailers like Amazon - not to mention other big box chains such as Walmart - Staples has been struggling. Last year it announced plans to shut down twelve percent of its stores in North America. The company says the new merger will create cost savings of about a billion dollars annually. Tide normally sells for between ten and twenty dollars, but you can get it for half that price on the streets Police in Virginia recently raided the home of a suspected cocaine dealer and found more liquid soap than drugs Meanwhile in Minnesota, police arrested a man and charged him with stealing 25-thousand dollars worth of the stuff over a fifteen month period Forget taking over the world, a Quebec man is demanding control of the entire solar system Sylvio Langevin (French pronunciation) filed a lawsuit demanding to be recognized as the planetary proprietor of Earth, the Sun, the other planets, and even a few moons for good measure. Sounds cute, but Quebec_s Superior Court judge was not impressed He_s declared Langevin to be a quarrelsome litigant, meaning he can_t file any more lawsuits without permission from a judge. Langevin_s filed 45 lawsuits since 2001, including a 1 billion dollar case against the federal government in 2009. Kazakhstan has filed an official complaint of their own after suffering yet another embarrassment at the hands of Borat When Maria Dymitrienko won a gold medal at the Arab Shooting Championships in Kuwait, she stood upon the podium and listened as the organizers accidentally played the mock anthem from Sasha Baron Cohen_s hit movie. Thousands of people attended rallies in Greece, Spain, and Portugal to support workers rights and protest harsh austerity measures. All three countries are riddled with serious debt and unemployment problems. Fortunately, the demonstrations were mainly peaceful. Over in North America, the Occupy Movement looked to rejuvenate itself by setting up a pop-up encampment in a New York City park, as a symbolic gesture to their former stronghold on Wall Street. Things weren_t as peaceful in San Francisco, where it_s believed members of Occupy Oakland smashed store windows, and vandalized a number of automobiles.EA) And concern in Europe is growing over the alleged ill treatment of imprisoned Ukrainian opposition leader and ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. Photos of Tymoshenko recently surfaced online, showing bruises on her body that she claims were inflicted by prison guards.
