Thanks Angie In Tuesday_s State Of The Union address President Obama will unveil a proposal that will raise taxes on the wealthy and provide relief to middle class families. The plan includes closing certain tax loopholes exploited by the nation_s top earners and increasing the capital gains tax. The proposal would raise an estimated 320 billion dollars over the next decade - funds that would be put towards middle class economic growth such as child tax credits. Of course the President_s plan will face stiff opposition from Republicans who are now in control of both the House and Senate. A shocking new Oxfam study has shed light on the explosion in financial inequality worldwide. The international agency says that at current rates the planet_s richest 1-percent will own more than the other 99-percent COMBINED by next year. They found that the richest 80 people have the same wealth as the planet_s poorest 3.5 BILLION people. The charity is calling on world leaders to take tougher stances on corporate interests. The report is expected to be a key talking point as politicians gather for this week_s World Economic Forum in Davos Switzerland. And Indonesian investigators have now confirmed that the crash of AirAsia flight 8501 was NOT due to terrorism. It was the first public statement from officials since analyzing the data on the plane_s cockpit voice recorder. The most likely cause of the December 28 crash still appears to be bad weather. Investigators said the pilot seemed to be too busy trying to regain control of the aircraft to send out a distress signal. I_m Katherine Curtis don_t go away.

The RIDICULOUS amount of money CEOs are making and how it PALES in comparison to the average worker. I know that disparity is cause for concern to many but just how bad is it? Oh it_s bad all right and it_s only getting worse here_s the story. The AFL-CIO_s annual Paywatch report says that in 2015 CEOs of S & P 500 companies made on average 12-POINT-4 MILLION DOLLARS. That amount comes out to 335 TIMES what was paid to an average worker and over 800 times what people on minimum wage would make Back in the nineties that ratio was just 100 times more then the average worker. And if that wasn_t enough of a slap in the face it turns out CEOs are also rewarded for avoiding taxes Chief Execs of many companies who moved profits overseas received salaries 79 PERCENT HIGHER than the other CEOs But in a bit of GOOD news for workers an updated rule is expected to make over 4 million American workers eligible for overtime The new rule unveiled by the Obama administration will raise the salary threshold at which people are eligible for overtime pay from about 24 thousand dollars to almost 48 thousand. That change means about 35 percent of full-time salaried workers will be eligible up from only 7 percent. This is the first time the threshold has been updated since 2004 And in the may not have a job anytime soon category a congressional candidate is in hot water after a screen capture included in a Facebook post seemed to reveal his porn habits. Mike Webb is a conservative running as an independent in Virginia_s eighth district. The Facebook post which mentioned his congressional run also included a snapshot of his web browser. It was written and directed by Paul Schrader who famously penned Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. That sounds promising but Schrader came out last month to say the project had been taken away from him and completely re-edited without his input. The whole thing has turned into a real mess. Dying of the Light is in theatres and available On Demand. Next up we have By The Gun a crime drama starring Ben Barnes as Nick Tortano. He_s an ambitious street-smart kid who_s grown up idolizing Boston mobsters. He_s eager to live the gangster lifestyle and jumps at the chance to do some of the mafia_s dirty work. Over time Nick proves himself to be a loyal soldier and gains the trust of the big boss played by Harvey Keitel. That_s when his dream finally comes true: he_s sworn in as a made man. Of course it_s not long before Nick realizes that being a made man isn_t all it_s cracked up to be. Soon he finds himself desperate to escape his life of crime. By The Gun doesn_t exactly redefine the gangster genre but manages to hit most of the right notes. It_s also in theaters now and available On Demand

Over 7 million people are without power along the US eastern seaboard in the devastating wake of Hurricane Sandy. In New York City the storm is thought to be responsible for a massive blaze that destroyed at least 50 homes. The city_s subway system has also been ground to a halt n officials say it could take up to 4 days to drain the water out of the tunnels. But the most dramatic scenario played out near Central Park where the arm of a construction crane snapped dangling precariously in the air 90 stories up.New Jersey was especially hard hit. A levee broke flooding several towns. It_s estimated that up to a thousand people will need to be rescued. Atlantic City was devastated with the downtown streets becoming part of the Atlantic Ocean. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie tweeted about the damage to the Jersey shore saying quote ìThe devastation on the Jersey Shore is some of the worst we_ve ever seen.i Across the northeast 16 deaths have been blamed on Sandy and it_s projected that the wind damage alone could cost 7 billion dollars in economic loss.With blackout warnings still in effect along the mid-Atlantic coast U.S. and Canadian residents have been turning to their smartphones for up-to-the-minute hurricane reports - specifically through Twitter. So for those of you hooked up to the micro-blogging site here are some accounts to consider following. There_s the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey which operates the areas three major airports. FEMA The National Weather Service and the Weather Channel are continuing to tweet storm updates every few minutes while NASA and the N.O.A.A. have been releasing new satellite images of Sandy_s path. The news begins in Paris France where the city is doing its best to battle rising pollution levels. Paris has been engulfed in a smoggy haze and on Monday began enforcing a new law to cut the number of drivers on the road in HALF Only cars with odd-numbered plates were allowed on city streets along with electric or hybrid vehicles or cars with three or more passengers. The city has also made public transit FREE to help clear up its air which one monitoring company called the dirtiest in the world last week. The American Navy_s USS Theodore Roosevelt is making waves off the coast of the southern UK The carrier was supposed to sail into the Royal Navy_s historic Portsmouth dockyard but was too big and has instead anchored off the coast of Hampshire. It_s a site that has drawn thousands of stunned onlookers to the beach to snap photos of the 100000 ton behemoth. The ship_s making a 5-day visit to the area as a display of strong US-UK relations and the 5000 sailors on board should give a friendly boost to the local economy. And it took more than five hundred years but Richard the third of England was finally given a King_s burial over the weekend. Richard died in battle in 1485 and was buried quickly without a coffin in a monastery that was later demolished. His bones weren_t found until 2012 during an archaeological dig in a parking lot in Leicester. DNA tests confirmed that the remains belonged to the fallen king and on Sunday hundreds of Brits - many dressed in medieval regalia - turned out to see Richard moved to his final resting place.
