Description: Close squalid apartment on the outskirts of the city. Dark, uncomfortable rooms, low ceilings. In this closed cramped space that provokes bouts of claustrophobia, four subjects live: a certain Rickard, his friend Geko, girlfriend Tess and, finally, in the darkest and farthest corner - his teenage son named Eric.
Three adults are doing amateur porn - they are selflessly perverting in front of an amateur video camera as soon as they can. At this time, teenager Eric in his nasty corner, not parting from his headphones, paints strange pictures and makes his favorite animals and seems to be the only friends - earthworms.
The film “A Hole in My Heart” (2004) by Lucas Mudisson, author of such films as “Show Me Love” (1998), “Lily Forever” (2002) is extremely radical in form and in theory. The fact that such a film fell into Russian, even if limited distribution, is an argument in favor of those who believe that Moscow has come close to the progressive capitals of Europe in terms of tolerance. Although, of course, there are not many people who not only will appreciate the work of Mudisson, but even just watch it to the end.
The most amazing thing is that “The Hole in My Heart” is not a documentary video or entertainment of underground artists who have lost their human appearance. This movie is played from beginning to end by professional actors. But played out so reliably and convincingly that it becomes uncomfortable. The Mudisson experiment actually did not arise from scratch. All associations with Piero Paolo Pasolini's or Salo or 120 Days of Sadoma (1975) or Marco Ferreri's Great Grub (1973) will be valid. The Hole in My Heart inherits the tradition of finding the high in the ugly. And, we must pay tribute to the director, he conducts his search not only honestly and courageously, but also, it seems, with some irony, since all the sickening moments are extremely exaggerated. True, it takes quite a lot of effort to appreciate all this. And even if the irony was really supposed, for some reason it becomes completely no laughing matter.
